In just four weeks the online search for Olympic holiday rentals has skyrocketed by 161 per cent.

These figures come from website Zoopla.co.uk which has launched a section on its website dedicated to short-term rental accommodation for the upcoming sporting event.

“International demand for short-term property lets in London over the summer is set to be fierce,” business development director at Zoopla, Nick Leeming said.

“With hotel rooms having been booked out months, and in some cases years, in advance short-term property rentals are a great alternative.”

There are already up to 1, 000 properties in London listed on the website for Olympics letting but there is still time if you are a Londoner who wants to take advantage of the influx of tourists.

Listings start at one bedroom flats for just £200 per week right up to six bedroom homes in Notting Hill available at £30, 000 per week.

“Many London homeowners looking to escape the capital during the Games are offering up their homes as a way to cash in,” Mr Leeming said.

Zoopla is also encouraging tourists too be smart when booking and only rely on a reputable lettings agent.

An estimated 500, 000 visitors are expected to head to London for the games which run from July 27 until August 12, 2012.
