A young man's guide to creating a stylish bedroom

Friday, 18 May 2012 9:49 AM

Every young man dreams of the day when they have their own stylish bachelor pad where they can entertain friends and family.

If you find yourself in a position where you can afford to live alone, there is certainly a lot to look forward to.

To begin with, you only have to worry about yourself and do not need to concern yourself with other people's living habits.

Another key consideration is that you get to create a place to live in that is totally in your own image. You get to choose wardrobes for bedrooms, furniture for the living room, the colour scheme throughout the flat or house and every other aesthetic element.

Aside from maybe the living room, the most exciting and important part of a bachelor pad to get right in terms of style is the bedroom.

The bedroom needs to look the part but also be practical and it is important that you get the balance right.

One of the most important considerations is what you will sleep on. You need to look at a range of beds and find one that is the right size and is also comfortable.

Wardrobes are another important piece of furniture. There are various designs on the market, including stylish mirrored wardrobes, sliding door wardrobes and freestanding units.

Were you to opt for a mirrored wardrobe, you would not need to invest in a separate mirror and enjoy the added bonus of making the room feel brighter and more modern.

In terms of the decor, you should opt for a style that reflects who you are and what you like.

If you are a keen sportsman, you may wish to incorporate elements of this in the room by way of pictures, trophies or other items that point to your sporting pedigree.

Maybe you are very keen on music and want to have a musical theme running through the space? Identifying a theme early on is something many young men do and build the room around this concept.

Also, it can be a worthwhile exercise to look at different styles, such as Art Deco, minimalist, traditional and Oriental to see if any of these or certain elements of them appeal to you.

Electronics are another consideration. Many young men like to have TVs, games consoles and music equipment in their bedrooms. The issue with this, however, is space.

Modern televisions and speakers can be large, bulky units and can therefore have a dramatic impact on how the room feels overall.

A TV that is too big may lead to the space feeling cluttered, so you need to perform a careful balancing act.

As well as design, you need to consider practicality.

You will need plenty of storage space to keep books, clothes, shoes, sports gear and any other items you may have.

It is important therefore to think about bedside tables, storage boxes, shelves and other practical items.

Putting together a bachelor pad is an exciting project but it is one you must give plenty of thought to. When it comes to the bedroom, you must decide which colours you want to incorporate, the furniture you need and how you are going to arrange everything to allow you to incorporate other items such as TVs and games consoles.

You want your home to have the 'wow' factor and impress your friends, girlfriend and others when they walk through the door and the best way to do this is to think carefully and have a clear idea to work with.

You can get beautiful bedroom furniture sets

Why bedroom furniture sets can be a good option

Instead of buying individual pieces of furniture for your bedroom, you may want to consider buying bedroom furniture sets. These packages can include various items and many shops will allow you to customise your set so it meets your exact needs.

Furniture sets can often be cheaper

What items are included in bedroom furniture sets?

If you opt for a bedroom furniture set, you can purchase several pieces of essential bedroom furniture in a single transaction. Also, these sets can often work out cheaper than buying beds, wardrobes and cabinets separately.
