Light installation blends art with lighting

When it comes to art, light installations are still a sought-after and impressive focal point in urban pads across Europe. Form Us With Love has made arguably the most outstanding structure yet, using 91 linked, 24-carat gold covered Work Lamps.

The Light Jockey instrument was uncovered June 18 at Design House Stockholm's opening of their OPEN concept in Boda, Sweden.

The 20,000 euro (around £17,615) piece came from an idea to make a gold chandelier out of a garage utensil. 1,100 cable ties are used to hold the lights together.

The installation can make graphic patterns or mood lighting, fully controlled by the user via individual dimmers attached to a separate control table.

"We wanted to use the typology of something that was considered greasy and make it beautiful," said Petrus Palmer, John Lofgren and Jonas Pettersson of Form Us With Love, a design studio based in Sweden.

An online video further describes the construction process.
