Affordable art from online student initiative

Tuesday, 19 April 2011 9:26 AM

You can decorate your urban pad for less and help struggling students, too, with a new online initiative. Buystudentart.co.uk was set up by an enterprising creative, Kerri Lister, who wanted affordable art to brighten up her own walls.

Her sister suggested she contact the local art college - a real 'lightbulb' moment that inspired her to set up a website to help students earn some extra cash.

With students facing eye-watering £9,000 fees from 2012, the extra funds will really come in handy.

“In one fell swoop I could create a new marketplace for aspiring artists to showcase their talents to the world, and to earn some money in the process, and give ordinary people the opportunity to own unique, inspiring and above all affordable art," Ms Lister said.

Artists aged 18 or over and can list up to five pieces of art at a time. There is mixed media on offer, from photography to oil paintings ad sculpture. Most works will be under £200, many less than £50.
