Competition between Apple, Sony and Blackberry in the tablet market may be giving consumers more choice. But a new report warns that increased demand for gadget gifts throughout 2011 and into Christmas means the most popular models may sell out.
Dixons Retail produced the report based on an analysis of sales trends.
Tablets such as the iPad, Sony Playstation Tablet and the Blackberry Playbook dominate the tech top 10, which also includes headphones, e-readers and the handheld Nintendo DS.
Dixons’ list also includes a kitchen gadget, with the colourfully designed DeLonghi Icona espresso maker hitting number three.
Sony’s CA Series, available in a number of eye-catching colours, are set to be huge hits this Christmas, coming in at number nine.
“At Dixons, we’re expecting demand for tablets to build from September, peaking well ahead of the traditional period in mid-December. said Mark Slater, Category Director at Dixons Retail.
“With new products arriving and the iPad 2 on the market, we know that thousands of people are going to want to get their hands on a tablet this Christmas.”
